DISCLAIMER: If there are characters you don't recognize, don't worry.  I'm not sure I recognize them either, 4 years in.  I suspect Cat and Flash are AU John and Sherlock.
Summary: Title is fairly self-explanatory.

“So why are we here, again?” Martha asked, staring up at the old, sprawling palace of a mansion before her.  The place was practically a city, but it was isolated from the rest of the planet.  In the distance, flying cars could be heard whizzing about, but here, only the muffled sounds of the country presided.

The Doctor shrugged, casually nodding and smiling into the nearest camera.  The giant wrought iron gates began to creak open with a protest.  “A friend asked me to come.  I didn’t feel I could say ‘no’.”  He was in one of his more mysterious moods this time, she noted.  He put his hands in his pockets and began sauntering up to what she assumed were the front doors, carved with all sorts of intricate designs.

Then they saw the first signs of life.

A young teenager tore past.  He looked back for a minute, and Martha had time to register goggles, and a shock of red hair, and something in the kid’s hand.  “Sorry!” he yelled, grinning, and sped up.

Martha had time to direct a questioning glance at the Doctor, who shrugged again, before someone else plowed into them at full speed.

A deep voice was swearing up a storm.  The Doctor was the first to recover, somehow making it to his feet, wincing.  He turned to give the person a hand up, but his hand wasn’t taken.  Martha craned her head around and saw an androgynous blonde in leather pants and a diamond-patterned vest glaring at everything and attempting to disentangle himself from her.  “Stay out of my way!” he hissed, and managed to get out, breaking into a run again.

The Time Lord held in his chuckles until the blonde was out of sight and began laughing as he held out a hand to help her up.  “Brilliant,” was his only response.

“What’s brilliant?” Martha asked, already feeling sore.

“Oh, I think Matt stole Mello’s chocolate.  Not the greatest of ideas really.”  She was expecting a long, convoluted story, but for once he stopped there, offering her his arm.  “Shall we, Miss Jones?”

Yet another teenager was crouched next to a small space created by boxes and luggage in the hallway.  “Cat…Cat, please?” he pleaded.  An angry mrow was his only reply.

Martha had to admit, the Doctor took her to the most interesting places.

She crouched by him-another red-head, only this one was more auburn-and asked quietly, “Lost your cat?”

He turned and grinned at her, somewhat sheepishly, and amused by something.  “Something like that.”  He went back to regarding the space.  “You can’t sulk all day, you know.  Sooner or later you’re going to have to come out.”  This time he was met with a defiant meow.

“I’m not angry at you, I promise.  Just come out?  I know you’re feeling a bit stressed at the moment, but it will get better.”  Yowling met his words, and he put his head in his hands.  “Cat.  Seriously.  If you stay in there, you won’t get anything done, and you’ll be more stressed than ever.  Please?”

Soft, depressed meows responded, and the boxes began to move.

Martha could only blink as a full-sized (though skinny) teenager unfolded out of the gap, still meowing pitifully.  Strangely enough, he wasn’t a Cat-person, which would make the whole scene much more believable.  The red-head smiled and petted the somewhat wavy black hair affectionately.  “That wasn’t so difficult, was it?  Seriously, next time tell me about Fence and I’ll make him stop, okay?”

“I strongly dislike him,” the teenager stated strongly, before turning bright, intelligent hazel eyes upon the two visitors.  “Flash, who are these?”  He paused for a moment, then placed his two pointer fingers together, interlacing the rest, and gently tapping at his lips.  “…travelers, I think.  From a long way.  Training to be doctor, bit of everything.  Young, old.  Friends of L’s or Wammy’s?  And just back from the Baksyu Nebula.”

The other teenager blinked.  “How…?  Oh, probably some sort of stain or dirt sample…”

“Mud.  Yes.  On the trainers.”  He smiled up lazily at the two of them.  “I have to apologize if either of you ran into Mello.  He’s not in the best of moods right now; Matt’s kept him running for over an hour.”

“He ran into us, actually,” Martha muttered, still a bit miffed about the bruises that would form later.

He was purring now.  Flash spared him another affectionate glance and kept stroking the hair.  “There’s a reason we call him Cat, you know.”
